Introduction

Navideo for PocketPCs connects navigation with mobile communication. Send your GPS location to others and also receive or request their location. Send your position for emergency assistance. Save your GPS position or your complete journey. Connect your PocketPC to Navideo Live - a web platform for fleetmanagement. Navideo can either be run in a Standalone Mode without additional navigation software or in combination with external navigation software.

3/7 Messaging:

If a SMS number is specified as recipient any message to that number is automatically sent by SMS.

In case an email address is defined there are two ways to send messages:

Internet Messaging via navideo.net:

  • Messages are sent immediately over the navideo.net platform. Therefore you need to enter your own email address in the user data section.

Internet Messaging via Email:

  • Messages are sent via your PocketPC messaging application. Be aware that exchanging emails does not necessarily occur in "push" mode as with SMS messages. However, it's possible to set up your email service so that it synchronizes with the mail server automatically within defined time intervals. To accomplish that, start your messaging service and go to the "options" dialog of the mail-account your are using.

3. Sending Positions

Send your current position as SMS or email

Before sending a location the software automatically enables your GPS if it is not already active and checks if your GPS signal is valid. An Address List Dialog will then be opened and you can either enter a SMS number or Email address or select one of the previously defined recipients. A message will be send by clicking the letter icon at the left side of the corresponding field.

  • SMS: if a number is entered as recipient your position will be sent automatically as SMS with your PocketPC messaging application
  • Email: Positions will be sent according to what is defined in your messaging configuration

Sending an Address:

If you want to send a text address (which is not necessarily your actual position) you can enter any address (street, number, city, text-message) in the dialog command->send->send address. When Navideo runs in "TomTom" mode you may check the position of the address prior to sending. Be aware, that the recipient of these messages also needs a PocketPC that runs Navideo in "TomTom" mode.

Minimizing Traffic:

In order to minimize GPRS traffic, Navideo location messages only requires the subject line to transfer its information. Therefore you also may configure your mailbox likewise.

4. Sending SOS

Send your current position to an emergency service

A location message can be sent to the address as defined in the emergency service configuration. Only German car service companies are currently supported. If your Service is not among this list you can of course manually enter the SMS number or email address of your service.

5. Requesting Positions

Request a position from someone else

An autoresponder request will be sent to the SMS number or Email address as specified in the configuration. Depending on your networks an autoresponder message will be returned within seconds.

Be aware that Navideo is running on the recipients PDA at the same time and also that its AR flag in the Navideo configuration is enabled. The message and the location information is getting stored in the Navideo message box.
